Report - Wolverhampton on 7 May 2017
Our season has got off to a winning start that saw two wins on the opening race meeting at Wolverhampton on 7 May 2017. The day started with a courageous second from the Zayin debutant Zayin Angkor Centurion that given another stride would have beaten the winner. Our other runner, Dhab’aha Athbah on her racing debut was a pleasing 5th and will only improve from this run. Jack as he is known is the one in the red bridle.

In the third race of the day we had a fourth with Forta Stud’s Shammat Al Hosn, only her third career run showed promise for the rest of the season – one to watch!

The fourth race was won by Zayin Indian Fuego who ran a brilliant race, driven out by our stable jockey from the outset was never in doubt 2f’s out – was the surprise of the day and both owner Paul Simmons and his work rider and best friend Sue Wileman were delighted by his courageous and enthusiastic run. Indy as he is known at home was also a little surprised at his achievement!
Our second win of the day came from Majid Bin Krayaan, owned by HH Sheikha Maryam Bint M Al Maktoum who was given a strong ride by Ellie Mackenzie, Majid led until he was joined after 1f, settled in second then hit the front again 1f out and stayed on well. Majid joined the yard last year, working on settling him and gaining his confidence at home has paid off. In this same race, we were also represented by Unity Belle and Ultimate force who both ran good races and will improve from this first run in what was a competitive handicap, coming 6th and 7th.

Race 7 saw the return of the stable star Zayin Zachilles who was Pete and Zayin’s first winner at the Dubai International meeting last year. Tommy as he known at home had not long returned from stud duties so was happy to gallop home in third place, watch for him later in the season!
